Lewisville is a suburban community within the DallasFort Worth metroplex. Originally called Holford's Prairie, Lewisville dates back to the early 1840s. The arrival of the town's first railroad in 1881 engendered its initial growth. The expansion of the area's transportation infrastructure spurred further development in the early part of the 20th century. Lewisville incorporated in 1925, and when construction of Lewisville Lake was completed in the 1950s, the city began to expand rapidly. The diversity of its population and industry has created a stable economic climate. It is home to Denton County's first cotton gin, built in 1867, which could produce up to three bales per day. The city's economy had become diversified before the Wall Street Crash of 1929, so Lewisville was relatively well insulated from the Great Depression. The 2020 census tabulated a population of 111,822, making it the fourth most populous municipality in Denton county. Between 1925 and 1932, the Interurban Railway, an electric commuter rail system, ran from Denton to Dallas, with service that ran to Lewisville.

This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values. The property tax rate of $19.23 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
